[ it's a little after trial is over. naminé doesn't go looking for him right away, since she assumes val might want to talk to other people first or just want to be alone in general.

but... tomorrow is uncertain, and she wants to see him before the purification happens. so she wanders from area to area in search of him until she eventually makes it to the fire nation. ]

[If she looks carefully enough though the fire dimension, she'll find Val inside of the large volcano and staring into the lava.

He doesn't quite notice her and it's clear there's no rise or fall of his chest at the moment. ]

she walks over slowly, making sure not to trip, until she gets close enough that she can get a better look at him. ]

[ He looks kind of comfortable, there on the ground and watching the lava flow. ]

[ Usually he'd get up to speak to someone else. Not today. ]

[ she glances around the space around them. at least she does not wear a lot of clothes or else it would be a lot hotter than it already is. ]

[ Val is dressed in his standard formal wear. Which means he's completely covered but completely at ease.]

Ah... so this is probably more familiar to you than the houses?

[ they are not next to a volcano. ]

Yes. It's not exactly the same, but it's still better than the houses.

Were you looking for me?

I was. I just wanted to check in.

[ see how he's doing considering the potential death looming over him. ]

My future either holds my death or my continued survival. It's out of my hands now, so panic won't do much good.

[ He looks pretty calm all things considered. ]

[ if this is his last night, then spending it crying might not feel right. ]

[ He's never really been the type to wallow. Usually he had enough work to not dwell on the past.

It's not exactly the same here. ]

... Yes. Until tomorrow morning I'll be here.

... okay. Although I hope I won't have to.

[ although she doesn't want any of the others to die either. ]

A few people are going to die tomorrow no matter what. Whoever is pairing people will be going their best, but I doubt it's going to be an easy decision for them.

... I don't really envy whoever has to choose.

[ it feels like a lot to have on your shoulders ]

Choices are always difficult. Especially when it comes to lives to keep.

Like what we had to do today...

[ there was a very real chance they could have gotten it wrong. ]

We came down to the wire on this one. As a group, we were lucky we found one of the Corrupted.

[But also there's one more of them out there.]

And some of the reasons we even found her was by coincidences.

[ please imagine if anna never did that elevator prompt and we never found out you couldn't just normally open the escape hatch ]

If anything, it's a good reason to throughly search whatever new places are available. It'll be easier to know how things were tampered with if you know what they were like before.

That's true... and I think we'll need to try to teach each other things. We all come from very different places, so some people might not realize something is wrong because it's not something they're used to.

That's true. The more you know, the better equipped you'll be to handle the upcoming weeks.
