[ What can he say to that? Of course there would be regret, not speaking to somebody before they passed, thoughts of "what if"s and "if only"s trying to convince you that something could have changed if things were different. Maybe Tsuru would've been in the kitchen with him and Naminé at the time, instead of out there. Maybe maybe maybe. ]
...Maybe we can burn an offering for him later. We wouldn't be able to hear anything back, but at least he can hear us.
[ Minato slows a little, to pull a small notebook out of his knitted side bag that he has and I never mentioned, he knitted himself a bag because people kept telling him to stop carrying fish in his pockets, and he has a notebook because Axel told him to stop taking notes right on his arm.
Anyways. He flips to a clean page of the notebook and writes at the top "CHICKENS." That should be enough of a reminder, probably. ]
[ it's weird, because she figured that her friends being here was a blessing, but now she's wondering what she might do if xion or axel got killed like that. ]
[ Minato hums softly under his breath in agreement, staring at nothing as they make their way to the kitchen. ]
People deal with things differently. Wish I knew how to help.
[ He only has two strategies when he's feeling down; either he sleeps for 14 hours straight, or he goes off to hunt Shadows, putting his life on the line in a situation where he can't afford to zone out, forcing himself not to think about anything else. Cooking is too mundane a task to accomplish that, but it's still something.
A pot of water gets put on the stove and the heat turned up, and then he turns to Naminé. ]
How about you choose two ingredients, and I choose two?
[ there's a good chance they won't, but even if this ends badly it's still a good way to kill time. there's probably other food they can nab to eat if that happens, so they don't go hungry.
but naminé will wander off to look for something in the kitchen that could possibly go into soup. ]
[ It's the process that matter more than the end result, but Minato tries to find things that will go well with anything. Eggs and potatoes it is. Five eggs, and ten potatoes. This may or may not end up more like mashed potato than a soup, but it's fine, he's sure the volume will reduce as they cook. ]
[ as naminé has never really cooked before, and admittedly does not get to eat too many different things, it takes her a little longer to pick something out. she eventually returns with tomatoes and ham.
[ Bless Naminé for choosing the potatoes, because potatoes can be difficult and if you're too slow at it they start to get sticky. Tomatoes just sort of squash everywhere but it's fine if the juice leaks out because it's getting thrown into water anyways. ]
I'll take the tomatoes, then. What kind of soup base do you want? Usually, it's a type of meat, but it can be vegetable too.
[ Minato glances over when she does, and can't pretend that the ham doesn't exist anymore.
Alright... Okay.
Can't make Naminé upset, so he picks up the ham and plops the entire thing into the water without slicing it or anything. Maybe they can just leave it in there at the bottom, like a lucky iron fish. ]
[ This is why Naminé is the best, just accepting Minato's whatevers and nobody tells him off. Tomatoes get chopped— Minato doing that thing where he just uses his palm as a cutting board instead of using the actual board- and thrown into the pot. He also sneaks in some chicken stock while Naminé is hard at work, because he forgets he's supposed to be teaching, instead of going behind her back trying to make this soup taste okay.
What else does soup need... He'll rummage through the cupboards looking for whatever, he supposes. ]
[ They're going to be turned into mush anyways, so they don't have to be pretty. Like my dad likes to say (to justify his terrible knifework, maybe): "Your stomach doesn't have eyes." ]
Hmm... We could do both, if you'd like.
[ He grabs both noodles and seaweed, and there is absolutely not going to be enough liquid leftover in this pot by the time everything's done cooking. ]

[ she sounds a little mad about this, like she's upset at herself for not reaching out to him before something like this happened. ]
I wish we did.

[ she remembers seeing lune leave something at tsurumaru's coffin. ]
What do you think he might like?

[ kara would kill them
she frowns, trying to think of... something. ]
What if we drew the chicken?

[ Minato as an artist. Save him, Naminé ]

[ tsuru will hopefully not mind the chicken not being perfect, maybe] ]

... I hope someone can look after his chicken.
[ it's a chicken ]

...Ookurikara knew Tsurumaru well, I believe. He said they'd go on missions together... He might be the best person to adopt the chicken.
[ The best place for an orphan is with family, if one would take them in. ]

[ without them asking him to, she means. ]
I hope he's doing okay.

hm. ]
no subject
Alright... this'll do. [ It's whatever? So long as it's even slightly edible, Minato will at least eat it; he's not that picky. ]
We'll go with something chunky. Eggs cook quickly, so we'll leave those for last. Do you want to peel potatoes, or cut tomatoes?
[ The ham... he will figure out later how to use it. ]

[ bless minato for not telling her no on her ingredients
but she'll go to get a knife to get started on it ]

Naminé... Do you like noodles, or seaweed?
